Montego Bay is Jamaica’s second largest city. It is located in the St James parish and has always been a favorite spot for Tourists to come and soak up the Sun. This parish is popular and tries to ensure they have all the luxuries of a North American country, therefore things might be a tad overpriced. If you are planning on visiting Montego Bay on a tight budget, not to worry there are tons of things you can do that will keep you completely occupied and entertained. Montego Bay is known for its mile long beaches and 5 star accommodations. The thing with most Hotels in Jamaica is that they are mainly all-inclusive … one price gets you food and so many other luxuries. Why not skip a hotel and stay at a Cottage or even a Guest House. This look like a really over-sized mansion like you would see on MTV Cribs, but it is actually a guesthouse. This family owned Guest House, features 20 rooms with rates starting as low as $65 usd per night. It is located on a Hill, which overlooks the city of Montego Bay and also has a Pool, Restaurant and Bar. This is located only 10 minutes from the Beach so the choice is yours to either walk or drive. If you have not secured a vehicle, Airport transfer is also included.
Restaurant Guide
Since you’ve saved a ton of money on your accommodation, you will be able to enjoy your meals from a nice Restaurant/s, these too are also budget friendly so don’t let some of the fancy names throw you off.
The Brewery: This is an English style pub offering English, Jamaican and International Cuisine. This is more of a full scale bar where you can get Hamburgers, Salads and Sandwiches. A great tip is to go shortly after noon as they are a bit slow to have all the meals prepared. Quality grilling takes time.
The Native: This is a Restaurant that has authentic Jamaican dishes like Stew Peas , Stewed Oxtails , Curry Goat and of course Rice and Peas. This unlike the Brewery is where you go when you want a good meal. Tip: Try the Stew Peas and ask them to add little extra peas on your plate, your taste buds are sure to come to life.
Activities
Jamaica Cruise Excursions: This cruise runs from Monday through Saturday and starts at the Doctor’s Cave Beach. For $65 usd you get a Catamaran adventure, on Swift Boats designed for partying with an open bar and also a stop at a Snorkelling stop in the Marine Park. Jeep Safari Tour: This tour might not be for everyone as the Jeep ride is described as rough as it travels through Montego Bay’s rugged terrain.
